There is an hour in Lagos that belongs to nobody and everybody. It begins when the light drops low enough to turn dust into gold, and it ends when the generators start.
Mama Ify has sold the same three things on the same corner for eleven years: groundnuts, sachet water, and advice. She keeps a ledger in her head. She has never been wrong about a debt.
What the hour makes visible is not hustle — that word has been worn thin by people who have never had to do it. What it makes visible is choreography. Everybody knows their step.
By 7:14pm the corner is quiet enough to hear a radio two doors down. The light has gone. The city keeps its own accounts.
